Ruby & Co Tea Party Photo Shoot

Ruby & Co Tea Party Photo Shoot

Last summer I went to see my good friend Katie Ford who was putting together a small business called Ruby & Co. This venture involves hiring out china which she has collected and she needed a way to promote these lovely unique items. She organised a tea party and asked me to come along to take photos of all the pieces in use and I’m delighted with how they came out. I shot these with a Canon 550D.

My latest video production projects

My latest video production projects

I wanted to show you a couple of videos I completed recently. They are both for Ourzone Magazine and I used the Canon 550d with a 50mm 1.8 lens. My latest video work includes a highlights video from the recent UK Ourzone tour and a behind the scenes video for The First’s latest music video. I’ve been working on colour correction and these to projects alowed me to learn some techniques.

Piping hot

Piping hot

I’ve been working on some branding for a plumbing firm this week, this has coincided with me recovering from a small operation in the middle of the week so I’ve had more than a few hours to fill and I found myself getting really into this little project. I used some interchangeable pipe elements I designed for use in the company’s logo to form their initials G & D and things grew from there.

CSS Animated Website Header

CSS Animated Website Header

I’ve been flexing my CSS muscles recently and I’ve decided to tackle an animated website header using nothing but CSS and its transition properties. The main points of interest hear are the transition values included in the CSS to initiate smooth animations and also the :target property which adds an extension to the url of the page and activates the desired element when the user clicks on it.

Classic Ford Show 2012

Classic Ford Show 2012

I had a fantastic day today at The Classic Ford Show at Santa Pod Raceway. I took the Canon along with me to get some practice in. I’ve shared a bunch of shots here for you all to take a look at. It was a dream shooting today in the sunlight and I’m really pleased with the quality of images the Canon was able to produce with very minimal shooting adjustments (I used Aperture Priority Mode throughout the day).

Turning over a new leaf

Turning over a new leaf

I’m often faced with the task of converting flat magazine features into 3D style mockups to help promote Ourzone. If you’re an Ourzone subscriber you will see my new solution to this problem hitting your inbox very soon, as I have incorporated it into the design of our new html newsletter. I have created a neat little PSD file which I can update rapidly thanks to the use of Smart Objects.

Hello Lovely - Postcard Design

Hello Lovely – Postcard Design

Hello Lovely is a non-profit organisation which was set up this month and its aim is to; “promote the little things that make a big difference”. I wanted to help out by offering my services of design to create a postcard which would be sent out to Ghana along with the handmade gifts. I thought I’d share the making process of this postcard with you all to hopefully inspire people to do what I did and create more postcards for the cause.

Richard the amateur photographer

Richard the amateur photographer

I’ve been getting into DSLR Photography of late and I am enjoying it more than ever imagined I would. Being a part of Ourzone Magazine has opened the door to many other opportunities. We invested in a DSLR (Canon EOS 550D) and it has given me the chance to finally get to grips with modern photography & video techniques. I’m still at the OH WOW stage when it comes to that all important depth of field and I just thought I’d share a few photos with you.

Welcome to my new website!

Welcome to my new website!

It’s been a LONG time coming but it’s finally here! Welcome everyone to my new portfolio website and working blog. This post briefly documents the building process and styling considerations that I devised as I was working through it. My main aims were to make a website which is very simple to update & to give myself a challenge to improve my WordPress skills.

Give me the detonators

Give me the detonators

My friend Tommy Hall is the bassist in rising Essex based rock band Day Of The Sirens. He had a concept in is head for the band’s upcoming video for ‘Home Is A Working Title’. The concept brought together descriptive illustrations which mapped out the lyrics in the song. I was up for a challenge and as I had been away from illustration for some time I took this project on for my own enjoyment. The video was edited by Kyle Waters.
